Xenical: Dosage
Adults
The recommended dose of Xenical is one 120-mg capsule taken with each of the three main meals per day. It can be taken during the meal or up to one hour after the meal is consumed.
If a meal is missed or contains no fat, the dose of Xenical may be omitted. The therapeutic benefits of Xenical (including weight control and improvement of risk factors) are continued with long-term administration.
The patient should be on a nutritionally balanced, mildly hypocaloric diet that contains approximately 30% of calories from fat. It is recommended that the diet should be rich in fruit and vegetables. The daily intake of fat, carbohydrate and protein should be distributed over three main meals.
Because XENICAL has been shown to reduce the absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins and beta-carotene, patients should be counseled to take a multivitamin containing fat-soluble vitamins to ensure adequate nutrition. The supplement should be taken at least 2 hours before or after the administration of XENICAL, such as at bedtime.
Doses above 120 mg three times daily have not been shown to provide additional benefit. No dose adjustment is necessary for the geriatric patient. >>>
